For this project we used information we learned about sound waves and vibration to help us build instruments. We built a metal xylophone, a wooden ukulele, a flute made out of PVC pipe, and a pan flute made out of bamboo. Our instruments had to play C,D,E,F,G,A and B. We also had to write a song that we could play our instruments to. Our song was written about quadratic function to the tune of the song, "Walking On Sunshine". Information and pictures about our instruments are below.
Reflection: Over all I thought my group did a good job cooperating and working together to build our instruments. I learned a lot about sound waves and vibrations. Three things I learned are that humans hearing range is from 20Hz to 20,000 Hz, lower pitched instruments tend to be larger due to longer wavelengths and higher pitched instruments tend to be shorter due to shorter wavelengths. Two things my group did well is that we all made sure everybody was cooperating and we came up with a lot of good ideas. We need to do a better job at managing time and I think it would help to draw everything out first and cut out all the pieces before we start building to help keep us more organized. I think we did a good job as a team and our instruments turned out better then I thought they would.
