Alu PV92 Lab
Purpose: The purpose of this lab was to find out the length of our alu gene to discover whether we are homozygous (-), homozyguous (+), or heterogyuous (+/-). We were trying to come across where are ancestors are from.
Definitions:
homozyguous- having identical pars of genes for any given pair of hereditary characteristics.
heterozygous- having dissimilar pairs of genes for any hereditary characteristics.
Materials and procedure will be found:

Results: I discovered that I am heterozyuous, meaning I have a positive and negative genotype. That means that my parents both have negative and positive genotypes or my mom has a positive genoype and my dad has a negative genotype and vise versa.
Analysis: I was able to discover that I am heterozyguous because as you can see below, in the first row to the right of the dark pink lines on the left, two bands appearent in the jel after the jel was put under the jel electrophoresis.

Conclusion: To start this project, we first had to isolate DNA from our cheek cells. We did that by swishing salt water and spitting it out. Next, we used PCR (polymerase chain reaction) to determine our genotype alu locus. Then we used gel electrorphoresis to analyze our results. My group and I had no problems throughout this lab. We all worked well together and everyone was able to get involved an have a part in the lab. I love labs like this and we all found it so fascinating. I was able to learn what a pipette is and how to use it. I also learned about geno types. I had a lot of fun doing this lab!
